Grade Beam
With the forms set it is time to place rebar. Two strands of #4 rebar (1/2 inch) running through the trench (for a single story) will suffice. Be sure to place the strands on rebar chairs to keep the rebar suspended in the concrete, and not sitting on the top of the rubble where it adds no strength.
Grade beam poured with forms still attached. Note the numerous j-bolts and two recesses for doorways.
Once the concrete is poured, briskly work a stake in and out of the concrete to ensure settling, then screed, and place the j-bolts according the preset marks. Try to set them as vertically as possible. A string pulled between properly marked batter boards will permit accurate j-bolt positioning along each wall. Finally, cover the wet concrete with plastic to facilitate proper curing, but take care not to jar any of the j-bolts.
