Blood Lath
With the walls meshed and stitched, the final step was to reinforce the window and door openings with metal lath. This strengthens the joints where the sections of the welded-wire mesh meet, and prevents them from cracking.
The lath was tied to the mesh with 18 guage galvanized wire. The lath seams (where the sides converged with the header) were tied together, and then to the mesh. Landscape staples were used as well.
Lath was also stapled to any of the exposed window framing, after it was covered with 15 lb felt (see photo). Ensure the lath is placed snugly against the window frame to effectively support the plaster, whose application is, of course, next!
