Door Trim

Assembling the door trim off site and transporting it to the jobsite in one piece would have been too cumbersome, so the heads were cut and assembled and the legs were cut, then all of the peices were sanded and finished and installed individually. The legs (and their framing) were cut to fall just short of the top of the foundation flashing to prevent potential moisture wicking problems. Just as the windows, the backs of the door trim were also finished with polyurathane. With the trim installed, the small gaps between the trim and the plaster were sealed with caulk.

Over the years, the cedar trim will likely require some sanding and refinishing, particularly on the window sills. But for the look it provides, it will be worth the effort.
